The Malecón
It is the sea wall that stretches
four miles from Havana Harbor in Old Havana to the modern downtown roadway and seawall which stretches for 8 km (5 miles) along the coast in Havana, Cuba. Because of the strong waves,
the water comes over and makes beautiful scenes and it is also good to have a
look in the sunset. The construction of the Malecón began in 1901. After the
first stretch was completed, for which several public facilities were
demolished, construction works were resumed in 1921, and again in the 30’s and
finished in 1952.

El Capitolio
The Cuban
Capitol building, is a large domed building, located on Prado street, on the
border of Old Havana and Central Havana. It was modeled after the American
Capitol building in Washington D.C. It was made in 1926
and it was the seat of government in Cuba until after the Cuban
Revolution in 1959. It has many beautiful
structures in the building.
El edificio del Capitolio cubano, es una gran cúpula del edificio, ubicado
en calle del Prado, en la frontera del viejo centro de la Habana y la Habana.
Fue modelado después del Capitolio estadounidense en Washington D.C. Fue hecha
en 1926 y fue la sede del gobierno en Cuba hasta después de la revolución
cubana en 1959. Tiene muchas hermosas estructuras en el edificio.
Habana Vieja
It is one
of the UNESCO World Heritage site. It was made in 1519 in
the natural harbor of the Bay of Havana by Spanish people. The city was built
in baroque and neoclassic style. Many buildings have fallen in ruin in the later half of the 20th
century, but a number are being restored. The narrow streets of Old Havana
contain many buildings and there are about 3000 buildings. You can feel how the
old time was like but sadly many was destroyed in 2008 due to the Hurricane
Ike.

patrimonio mundial. Se realizó en 1519 en el puerto natural de la bahía de la
Habana por los españoles. La ciudad fue construida en estilo barroco y
neoclásico. Muchos edificios han caído en la ruina en la segunda mitad del

The Museum of the Revolution was
created in 1959 by direct order of the Communist Party, but it was not housed
in the presidential palace until 1974. In its over 30 exhibition rooms, the
museum now displays countless objects, pictures, and infographics that tell the
story of Cuba’s revolutionary war and of the communist regime that came after
it. Its permanent exhibits include the Communist Party’s greatest
accomplishments: the Cuban Revolution, the Moncada Barracks Attack of 1953, and
the life of Che Guevara.

comunista, pero no fue ubicado en el Palacio presidencial hasta 1974. En sus

- The country is really classic and there are no new buildings and full of antique cars that you feel like you’re in a different time in the past.
- Cubans were not allowed to own cell phones until 2008, when the ban was lifted by President Raul Castro’s government. Internet access is restricted to less than 5% of the population among Cuba’s 11 million inhabitants.
- Cuban cigars are known as the finest cigars in the world. They are hand crafted with homegrown tobacco. Sugar made from sugar cane is their major crop.
- No one can legally own a car today in Cuba. Legal ownership of cars was discontinued by the government after 1959. Today, all the cars are owned by the Cuban government.

Geography of Cuba
- Cuba is the largest country by land area in the Caribbean, and the main island is the sixteenth largest island in the world by land area.
- Overall Cuba's land is relatively flat, flowing gradually into hills, including a few hills of limestone shown to the right. Cuba's coastal areas are the most mountainous.
- Considering its overall size Cuba has little inland water areas. Cuba has nearly 200 small rivers as well as many narrow streams that run dry in summer.
- In the Sierra de los Organos of the far-northwest the landscape is hilly with a few lower mountains.

Ultimate Ropa Vieja
- 4 Pounds flank or skirt steak
- 2 medium carrots, sliced into coins
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/4 Cup olive oil
- 1 large Spanish onion, cut into quarters
- 1 large Spanish onion, julienned
- 1 large red bell pepper, julienned
- 1 large green bell pepper, julienned
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 1/2 Cups tomato, crushed
- Dash of red-wine vinegar
- 1 Cup beef stock
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of pepper
Directions
- In a large stock pot, combine the water, flank steak, bay leaves, sliced carrots, and 1 spanish onion cut in four. Cook at a medium heat for 1 ½ hours or until meat is tender to a fork.
- Reserve some of the stock from the pot and strain the rest. Let the steak cool and shred. In a large skillet over medium heat add the olive oil, garlic, peppers, and the julienned onions and cook until translucent. Add the shredded steak, crushed tomato, beef stock, and red-wine vinegar. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Cook all of the ingredients together for 1 hour. Serve over white rice.

El Ingrediente
4 libras flanco o falda bistec
2 zanahorias medianas, cortadas en monedas de
Bahía de 2 hojas

taza aceite de oliva
1 cebolla grande Español, cortado en cuartos

1 grande pimiento rojo, en juliana
1 grande pimiento verde, Juliana
3 dientes de ajo, picados
2
1/2 tazas tomate triturado • chorrito de vinagre de vino tinto
1 taza carne stock • pizca de
sal
pizca de pimienta
Las Indicaciones
- En una olla grande, combine el agua, Arrachera, hojas de laurel, en rodajas las zanahorias y 1 de Español de cebolla cortada en cuatro. Cocinar a fuego medio por 1 hora o hasta que la carne esté tierna a una bifurcación.
- Reserva parte del caldo de la olla y cuele el resto. Deje que el filete fresco y desmenuzar. En una sartén grande sobre fuego medio agregar el aceite de oliva, ajo, pimientos y las cebollas en juliana y cocinar hasta que estén transparentes. Agregue la carne deshebrada, tomate triturado, caldo de carne y vinagre de vino tinto. Sazonar con sal y pimienta al gusto.
- Cocer todos los ingredientes juntos durante 1 hora. Sirva sobre arroz blanco.
